QNUK Level 3: Forest School First Aid (RQF)

Who is this for?

The Forest School First Aid regulated qualification is currently unique to Qualifications Network. It is aimed at forest school leaders who may currently need to undertake up to 3 first aid qualifications to meet requirements. This qualification ensures they can meet those same requirements simply by completing one qualification; therefore on successful completion of this qualification learners may opt to also be certificated fo the following:

• QNUK Level 3 Award in Emergency First aid at Work (RQF)
• QNUK Level 3 Award in Outdoor First aid (RQF)
• QNUK Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF)

Pre-Requisites:

This qualification is aimed at those over 16 who are able to undertake the responsibilities associated with being an emergency first aider.

Those under 16 may undertake the qualification, however they should not be relied upon by employers to be a responsible first aider.

Due to the language of the assessment, it is recommended that learners have sufficient command of the English language in order to understand the assessment and to undertake the recommended assessment methods.

Attendees will be required to demonstrate First Aid procedures as they would in a real work environment. This includes providing CPR to a casualty who is on the floor, therefore be physically capable of doing so.

Course content

The Forest School First Aid  qualification has been developed to meet the first aid training requirements outlined by the Health & Safety (H.S.E) and Forest Schools.

The course includes: 

• Identify the role and responsibilities of a forest school first aider
• Identify how to minimise the risk of infection to self and others
• Identify the need for consent to provide first aid
• Differentiate between an infant and a child for the purposes of first aid treatment
• Conduct a scene survey
• Conduct a primary survey of a casualty     “Conduct a primary survey on an infant, a child”
• Demonstrate how to protect a casualty from environmental factors
• Summon appropriate assistance when necessary
• Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty at risk of hypothermia
• Demonstrate how to monitor a casualty’s vital signs
• Identify when to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Demonstrate adult CPR using a manikin

             “Outline modifications of CPR in relation to:
                   A child

• Identify when to place a casualty into the recovery position

• Demonstrate continual monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position
• Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure
  • Identify when a casualty is choking
    “Demonstrate how to administer first aid to:
                 an adult who is choking or
                 a child who is choking”
• Demonstrate how to administer first aid to an infant who is choking
  “Identify how to administer first aid to an infant or a child:
  • Bites
  • Stings
  • Small cuts
  • Grazes
  • Bumps and bruises
  • Small splinters
  • Nose bleeds”
• Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty with minor burns and scalds.
• Identify whether external bleeding is life-threatening
  Demonstrate how to administer first aid to a casualty with external bleeding
  “Demonstrate control of external bleeding using a:
  • trauma dressing
  • haemostatic agent
  • tourniquet”
• Recognise when a casualty is suffering from shock
• Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock
• Identify how to administer first aid to a casualty who has been immersed in water

Additional topics can be delivered on request although delivery time may need to be extended.
